Grant and funding opportunity monitoring
Track grants.gov, NIH RePORTER, NSF announcements, and private foundation grant pages with alerts on every new opportunity.
Research institutions, nonprofits, and grant-seeking organizations operate on opportunity windows that close fast. Missing an RFP by a week is often a year of waiting until the next cycle. WebMonitor.fyi tracks the public grant announcement pages — federal (grants.gov, NIH RePORTER, NSF), state, and private foundation — for new opportunities matching the keywords or topics that matter.
How to set it up
Map the funders relevant to your work
For research: NIH, NSF, DOE, NEH, NEA. For nonprofits: Ford, Rockefeller, MacArthur, sector-specific foundations. For state-level: your state's grant portal.
Monitor the search-results URL, not the homepage
Grants.gov and NIH RePORTER let you save a filtered search. Monitor that search URL instead of the unfiltered homepage — fewer false alerts.
Daily intervals are right for grant monitoring
Hourly is overkill; grants don't move that fast. Daily check at, say, 8am catches new announcements with plenty of lead time for the deadline.
Route to the grant-development team
Slack channel or email distribution list. The team reviews each alert and decides whether to pursue.
Who uses this
- Academic research labs tracking NIH and NSF RFP cycles
- Nonprofits tracking foundation grant cycles in their issue area
- State-funded programs tracking state agency grant announcements
- Small businesses tracking SBA and state economic development grants
- Universities tracking federal contracting opportunities (SAM.gov)
Honest limits
Grant monitoring catches what the funder publishes publicly. Many private foundations operate by invitation only and never publicly post RFPs — those are outside scope. Pre-announcement intelligence (relationship-driven grant work) is a different mode.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track NIH-specific funding mechanisms?
Yes. Use NIH RePORTER's search to narrow by activity code (R01, R21, U54) or institute (NIDDK, NCI). Monitor the filtered search URL.
What about international funding (Horizon Europe, UKRI)?
Yes. The European Funding and Tenders Portal and UKRI grant pages work as monitor URLs.
Can I monitor for specific topic keywords across multiple funders?
Yes — set one monitor per funder per topic keyword. Most grant offices run 20–40 monitors covering their funder network.
